On July the 2nd, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced their intention to revisit the status of the manatee and its subspecies on the endangered species list. This revision could reclassify the manatees in the "threatened" category instead of the "endangered" category.
Due to the marine erosion there is an increase in deaths in the recent years and now less than 10, 000 nesting manatee pairs remain. Taking them of the endangered species list would make it harder for this species to survive.
