Instead of sandy beaches and iconic sunsets, Florida beachgoers were welcomed by toxic algae and wildlife remains such as whale sharks and pelicans.
With rising temperatures, the situation will only get worse. And this is why taking action is imperative: we must protect this beautiful land is a responsible and sustainable manner.
In the upcoming weeks, the United Nations will host a crucial meeting in New York, and one of the main topics of debate will be climate change. Huge demonstrations are expected all across the globe on Friday, September 20th. The climate change meeting is scheduled on Monday, September 23rd and, most likely, will not include the leaders of the US and Russia, which is truly abhorrent and disappointing.
But getting back to the issue of the Florida beaches, it is important to point out that not only the President of the US is not concerned at all about this issue, but also local politicians. The people in power in the beautiful state of Florida should be extremely alarmed by these facts, yet they don't seem to care - and this is a tremendous danger.
We must apply as much pressure as possible so lawmakers can take this matter seriously. It would be a tragedy for the entire state of Florida, but also for the entire United States nation if these once pristine and lovely beaches would be conquered by indifference and ignorance.
