Urge EU to rethink its food strategy: stop the food waste in Europe!

Across the European Union, still thousands of people continue to live below the proverty line, most of them in Eastern Europe, in countries such as Romania and Bulgaria. For these citizens, providing food to their families is a real struggle – yet supermarkets all across the continent throw massive amounts of food in the garbage chute – alarming statistics indicate that an average of more than 40 kg of unsold food is tossed away each day. Simply put, the amount of food that is wasted is staggering!
France has taken notice about this matter and has introduced a law to prevent supermarkets from throwing this unsold food away – instead, it is donated to charity. This law – which the French should be commended for – has established a precedent all across the world.
But a similar law needs to be enforced among the entire EU nations, and there should not be any question about that. The European Parliament must adopt legislation to stop food waste in every EU country, because the staggering waste of precious resources must be stopped without delay. Food waste must become history all across Europe!
I have recently learned that the European Commission is preparing a new circular economy strategy that will include how Europe should tackle with food waste topic. This provides us with a tremendous opportunity to make our voices heard on this extremely important issue! We cannot be silent anymore, for the sake of those people who are working incredibly hard to put food on the table for their families. These people need a voice!
Please support my campaign and urge EU lawmakers to introduce an obligation for supermarkets to donate their unsold food to charities. Your signature weighs tremendously and it is important you take part in this campaign!
Thank you for caring!
