In May 2019, Uber made its debut at the New York Stock Exchange with an initial public offering (IPO) – the translation: the rich just got a lot richer. Meanwhile, the backbone of this company – its employees, those who work extremely hard to provide great services for consumers – suffer the most as a result of this corporate greed. I set up this campaign because I strongly believe what is happening at Uber is extremely unfair and demand the gap between top management salary and those of the workers is significantly reduces as soon as possible.
It is important to point out that drivers do not benefit from the same safeguards that are provided to other salaried employees; Uber has, without a doubt, deprived them of decent earnings, viewing these people only as commodities and disposable objects. At the beginning, drivers would get about 80 per cent off of each client’s fare rides – nowadays, that percent has dropped to about 30 per cent. Things cannot continue like this.
Drivers are the most direct line to customers, they are the face of the company if you wish and this is why we believe they should be treated better and executives should show dignity and respect towards them. While I have had only positive experiences with Uber drivers, a lot of them have complained about the working conditions. It is very difficult for them to make ends meet, simply put. A happy driver will result in better consumer experience and satisfaction, there should not be any question about that.
Meanwhile, Uber executives have agreed that the company will not be able to succeed without drivers themselves, yet is has refused to do anything to improve their living standard and working conditions. This contradiction is striking to me.
Please support my campaign and urge Uber to treat drivers better! Thank you!
