Pret A Manger: Foods that contain pesticides are not natural!

Pret A Manger used to be one of my favourite places to grab a quick bite to eat; whether it was one of their delicious, freshly baked sanwchiches, their fantastic natural sodas, or some fruit, I would always enjoy my experience there.

But I have recently learned that the company is misleading customers, by mislabeling food with pesticides as natural. The company has been accused of labeling bread as natural, when actually it contains pesticide glyphosate.

The curious part of it all is how the information got out the public: a teenager who is allergic to sesame ate a Pret sandwich with ingredients that had not been labelled accordingly. His parents took the sandwich in question straight to a laboratory for further testing; it was revealed that traces of glyphosate were found in that product (dozens of additional screening revealed this was the same case for other varieties of Pret sandwiches).

A recent study found out customers expect products that are labelled as natural not to cotain any pesticides. Ronnie Cummins, the international director of the Organic Consumers Association had the following to say about this matter: Companies like Pret a Manger are well aware of this situation. By telling customers their products are natural, they are blatantly deceiving them, so they are able to sell more products and charge higher prices. This is nothing but a worthless advertising tactic; the food that is sold to customers does not correspond, in many cases, to what is really inside.

We, the undersigned, are deeply disappointed and deem the practices carried out by Pret A Manger as unacceptable and urge the company to come clean and stop mislabeling products. We hereto pledge not to purchase their products any longer until our demands are being taken into account and a formal apology is issued by the company.
